"For the Good of the Whole"
First Holy Communion marks a child or adults' first reception of the sacramennt of the Holy Eucharist. This usally happens in second grade, at about the age of 7-8. It marks an important event in the child's life and is marked with a celebration and white garments. The white garment symbolizes newness and purity.
Adults my be prepared in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program. This is a yearly program that starts in September and is completed in Lent.
Children's faith is first formed by their parents, starting with the vows that were taken at Baptism. With the help of the Youth Faith Formation Program, the catechists and helpers, the child should be ready for the reception of their first Holy Communion in the second grade.
